Scott’s writing begins with a particular incident and widens toward a human question. The goal is not to present a perfect narrator. It is to show the systems, mistakes, surprises, and people that made a life more honest over time. If the books feel conversational, that is because the intended audience is not a classroom. It is a table where somebody has just asked a good question.
